The Legacy
Sister Benigna was very simple, humble, joyful, selfless and had great love for the fellow man. Her constant union with God, made her understand her life as a gift and service to the fellow man. All her actions aim to take people to God. She worked in the restoration of several families. She loved children very much, as well as young people. She went towards each one of them. She spared no efforts to get to someone. When needed, she even stumbled upon them in order to have a motive to approach, listen, embrace and give all the spiritual guidance that the person needed. Identified and valued what each person had best, and taught people to act the same way. She didn’t rebuke whoever it was for their flaws, but encouraged everyone for their virtues. She lived for God and the fellow man. Those who lived with her, and the ones who open themselves in order to follow her life examples, benefit with her legacy. She worked together with the people, always heading towards those who were sick, needed and afflicted, no matter what time it was. She forgot about herself. She wouldn’t put obstacles to perform her mission, even though she was obese and suffered from many illnesses. She never discriminated anyone. She had several gifts and a special way to welcome people and helped them to solve their problems. She assisted everyone. When she performed her work as nurse, lots of children were born with her help, because when there wasn’t a doctor, she was the midwife. Working in several houses of the Congregation. Sister Benigna went through suffering, defamations, and pursuits. But she forgave everything her love for God and her fellow man. Her faith was unwavering, everything was solved through Jesus and Our Lady. She never felt discouraged. With humbleness and joy, she overcame the difficulties. She taught everyone about the importance of going to the Holy Messes, the Sacraments, Prayers, specially the Hail Holy Queen – her favorite prayer, and the devotion to Our Lady. Her exemplar life path towards God, left deep marks and, in all the cities she lived in, her holiness is recognized by the people, leading countless people to faith and conversion. Wherever she passed by, she brought God’s Light, changing people and situations. It was through her endearing personality and her entrepreneurial spirit, that she built a maternity, the grottos of Our Lady, a chapel and rebuilt a nursing home that at the time, was also an orphanage and a nursery. She never did things alone, she performed joint efforts, and campaigns along with her friends. She gathered people of all ages, all social levels, cultural and economical, to help her with her charitable works. Always close to people, she took care of each person in a special manner, praising what each person had best. Everyone who she approached, discovered, in themselves, the capacity of also loving and serving God and the fellow men. Her life was a complete donation to God and her fellow men. Between prayers, people witness the holiness of Sister Benigna’s life, her lessons, the importance of continuing everything she’s done and taught, and the certainty that her, in Heaven, would keep helping, as she said it herself, interceding for everyone. Popularly, she is recognized as “The Saint of the Hour”, because her life example is the solution for many crisis that the world is facing currently and also for aiding everyone in the hour most needed; “The Saint of the Hail Holy Queen”, because of her rendition and devotion to Our Lady, trusting Her all of the situations by praying the Hail Holy Queen; and “The Saint of Abundance”, because, with her way of always search for the best for everyone, she achieved – and keeps achieving graces from God in abundance, due to the strength of her intercession.
